This book has a strong educational intent, and my job was not only to bring the concepts to life but also to make the pages as engaging as possible. There were lots of rehearsals and sketches—and plenty to learn along the way. The hardest part? Translating some concepts onto the pages and designing the layout.

Along the way, I discovered machines that turn garbage into compost, the meaning of the word ‘xeriscaping,’ and what a kelp forest is. Did you know that plants can communicate with each other? Amazing, right?
